Jessica Gerena's passion for soccer is deeply rooted in her family history and her own extensive playing career. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Jessica was inspired by her father, who managed and coached a men's soccer league. This early exposure to the sport ignited her lifelong love for soccer, which continued to grow after her family moved to Royal Palm Beach, Florida, in 1990.

  • She began her soccer journey with the Royal Palm Beach Dragons in 1990 and quickly advanced from recreational to competitive play.
  • Excelled as a player from 1990 to 1995, earning the title of MVP for three consecutive years.
  • She played for Blitz Soccer in Broward for two years, concluding her competitive career before college.
  • She starred on the Women’s Varsity team at Wellington High School from 1994-1998, where she was a four-year starter and team captain and played key roles as a defender and center midfielder. Her high school career was distinguished by numerous awards including Defense MVP and First Team All-County.
  • Attended Nova Southeastern University from 1998 to 2000, setting records and achieving top stats in her freshman year, followed by a transfer to Northwood University where she completed her bachelor’s degree and soccer career as team captain.

Coaching and Community Involvement:

  • Coached for the Wellington Soccer Recreational League for two years and was actively involved in organizing and assisting with Wellington summer soccer camps.
  • Currently, Jessica takes pride in coaching at the Royal Palm Beach Strikers, the club where she began her soccer career. She fosters a nurturing and growth-oriented environment.

Jessica’s coaching philosophy centers around building deep, meaningful relationships and enhancing communication and trust among team members. Her holistic approach to coaching emphasizes not just athletic skills but also personal and team growth. Her full-circle experience—from player to coach, and now as a parent watching her own children play—enriches her ability to connect and motivate her players. Jessica is committed to contributing to the Strikers family, ensuring it remains a supportive and thriving community for future generations.
